LinkedIn Ads tracking templates

LinkedIn Ads tracking lives in Campaign Manager URL parameters (or the landing URL query string) — not a Google Tracking template field. Most teams paste classic utm_* plus LinkedIn macros so CRM and GA4 can join paid social to pipeline.

How LinkedIn tracking works

  • Per-ad / creative URL parameters — bake macros into the destination before launch; LinkedIn does not inherit an account-level ValueTrack template the way Google does.
  • B2B naming debt — if Search uses utm_source=google / utm_medium=cpc but LinkedIn uses free text every week, “Paid Social” vs “Referral” fights in GA4. Align with Tracking Standards.
  • ClickPatrol / fraud tools — LinkedIn uses destination parameters (source=l style), not the Google trck-001 redirect. See LinkedIn ClickPatrol recipes when you need both.

Common footguns

  • Copy-pasting a Google {lpurl}? string into Campaign Manager — tokens will not expand.
  • Putting company name in utm_source instead of a stable channel key (linkedin) — reports fragment by brand spelling.
  • Skipping lead-gen form vs website destination checks — form fills may not carry the same query string as website clicks.

FAQ

Is there a LinkedIn {lpurl}?

No. Append parameters to the destination URL / URL parameters field in Campaign Manager.

Can I reuse my Google Ads Final URL suffix on LinkedIn?

Only the static UTM keys. Replace Google ValueTrack ({campaignid}) with LinkedIn macros or fixed campaign names before paste.

Why do LinkedIn UTMs look fine in Ads Manager but empty in GA4?

Usually a redirect or CRM form that strips the query string, or a different landing URL than the one you parameterized. Click-test the live ad URL, not the Creative preview alone.
